Was asked to eyeball a Chinese video clip recently.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_Wu1HlZbBk&feature=youtu.be&t=36s

I think it was designed for in-house propaganda but I noted a fun oddity.  At 1:24, 2:03, 2:22, and 9:31 minutes:seconds into the clip there are brief glimpses of the GLMatrix screensaver which is part of some Linux distributions, notably Ubuntu derivatives.

Not sure if the Chinese are big Linux users or if they just think the screensaver is cool.

Picked this up at the BBC site.  Comedian Nick Helm won a British award fro best joke of the year:

"I needed a password eight characters long so I picked Snow White and the Seven Dwarves."

We are currently looking for experienced Linux admins, Windows admins and Oracle DBAs.  If any of you guys are looking for work, or can recommend anyone, please let me know!  This would include nights (11pm to 7am) and/or weekend shifts.  Active security clearance and any relevant certifications are preferred!

Stumbled across this Linux t-shirt browsing.  Don't think I am brave enough to wear this t-shirt anywhere...

Expecting to see the Gnome 3 desktop when Fedora 15 is released at the end of this month.  Will give it a try then.

I've downloaded Ubuntu 11.04 twice but each time the CHECKSUM failed.  Screenshots look pretty cool.

The new distros are rolling out, and for Gnome users some big changes are coming.

I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 and am using their new Unity interface, and actually like it.  There are definitely some bugs but hopefully will get ironed out pretty quickly.  This is a nice looking interface.  The other distros are starting to ship Gnome 3, which looks nice in screenshots but I haven't actually tried it out yet.  Anyone else used it?

Interesting story about Penguin Computing selling very high-speed servers running Linux to high-speed stock traders.  As the article notes small increments of time can make the difference between profits and losing one's ass.

They certify the servers with Redhat, Centos, or SuSe Enterprise flavors of Linux.

Wow! That is a bit of planning. More than a year in advance. My hat is off to you. If it were me I would be finally getting around to an announcement like this in March of next year.  Grin

I can't answer for the group, but I won't be in town for the event.

This is maxolasersquad, David, again from Tallahassee.  Last Ubuntu LTS I went out to Pensacola and did a release party with y'all.  I had discussed I would probably only do this during the LTSes given the driving necessary, and how I would pretty much be taking over all of your meetings if we did it every release.
Anyhow, the next LTS has been planned for April of next year.  I thought I would go ahead and chime in to see if your group was still up for mixing a Pensacola LUG meeting with a release party.
